52 Stories: #12 Memories thought lost

When I ask Sonja what her favourite place in Treptow-Köpenick is, she quickly says "Der Karpfenteich". And there is a very specific reason for that. Sonja has lived in Berlin for almost 20 years and has migrated within Germany. On a beautiful, cold winter afternoon 20 years ago she landed with friends at the carp pond. And the pond was partly frozen over. As a young person, you sometimes act thoughtlessly. "Someone sold mulled wine in the park and we started to warm up with the mulled wine" Sonja tells with a wicked smile on her face. And as it happens, everyone wanted to skate. "We didn't have skates with us," she continues.

Although Berlin is her home, she has been looking for this place for a long time, because at that time she didn't know where she would end up. Years later she found out that it was the carp pond and it's full of memories of her first time in Berlin.
